Agreement

"Lieutenant Uhura, may I have a word with you?"

Straight-backed, Spock spoke clearly but not sternly.

"Yes, Captain?" Uhura replied stoically as she looked up from her control panel.

Spock glanced at a nearby crewman who appeared to be eavesdropping and lowered his voice. "This is a matter best discussed in private, Lieutenant. I trust you would not be adverse to moving this conversation to another location. I promise I will be brief."

Uhura couldn't help but smile a little. "Of course, Captain." She got up and followed him off the bridge to a quiet area of the ship.

"Alright, Spock, what is it?" she asked, much less formally. She folded her arms and pretended to be impatient, though she knew it would make no difference.

"As you are likely aware, Nyota, there has been a breech of contract with respect to the parameters of our relationship, as outlined in the second paragraph of our Agreement," Spock began, brandishing a holographic legal document.

"What breech of contract? What are you talking about?"

"Our Agreement outlines the acceptable behaviours regarding our current romantic relationship and details the circumstances under which it is appropriate to engage in intimate physical contact," Spock continued seriously.

"Yes," Uhura sighed, wishing he would skip the formalities and get to the point for once.

"When we made this Agreement, we did not include the possibility of us working together aboard the Enterprise, much less my sudden position as Captain," he said. "As we could not have logically foreseen these events, we were not prepared, and so I will keep this breech off of the official records. This means, however, any further actions of this kind will need to be officially reported and dealt with unless we agree on new conditions for the remainder of our journey. If you so desire, I can arrange to have new documents made up to be signed by both parties so that--"

"For crying out loud!" She rolled her eyes and grabbed his holographic pad and marker and scrawled some words on it.

Appendix: We, the undersigned, may make-out on the Enterprise any time, at our own discretion.

She signed it and shoved the marker into his hand and prodded him to sign as well.

It took some effort for him to keep the look of shock off of his face. He signed and took a moment to compose his thoughts.

"We will need to get this notarized at the next available opportunity," he started, but upon noticing the look on Uhura's face, he quickly added, "but for now I will use my authority as Acting Captain to declare this document legally binding for the time being."

"Thank you," she replied with a small nod.

Spock stood straighter. "That is all, Lieutenant. You may go back to work."

"Yes, Captain," Uhura said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice which went undetected by Spock, who, if one were not to know any better, seemed as if he was slightly pleased with himself.
